wow. a story about survival & the will to live. i wanted to see this merely out of interest of the story of aron ralston. what a story btw. so inspiring. so uplifting. it really brings every aspect of life into context. specifically what we value as important. our priorities are perhaps a little skewed. however going into it i did question how good it could be, since - well i knew what was going to happen! based on a true story that has been well documented (since it's occurrence in 2003). the fact is every single member of the audience knew what was going to happen. the director danny boyle (of slumdog millionaire fame) plays on this fact remarkably, with a virtuoso piece of film making. primarily establishing ralston's reckless charm, professional competence, coupled with the awesome utah surroundings. next boyle plunges james franco (ralston) into the claustrophobic crevasse where all his spiritual, physical, & mental resources are tested to their limit. at its centre is a magnificent performance by james franco as the main man. with no actors/actresses to bounce off, merely the utah surroundings to work with, he must gain great credit for his performance. this film has inspired me no end. i left feeling uplifted & motivated to...i suppose put myself in challenging situations (although not of this severity!) so that i too can test my spiritual, physical, & mental resources. although i was fully aware of the ending the film still captured my interest and attention throughout. 9/10.
