due to the fact only a handful of "hip-hop" artists are putting out quality music these days i have been driven to downloading some of the classic albums in the genre. and to be honest i'm glad i did. albums such as Reasonable Doubt - Jay-Z, Illmatic - Nas and Mos Def and Talib Kweli's collaboration album - Black Star. these guys personify the term "emcees". you could take away the music and it would simply be poetry.
all great albums. common's 'like water for chocolate' and slum village's 'fantastic vol. 2' are a couple of my other favourites from around that era.
